In defence of the demons

Today is Dusshera — the day to celebrate the win of good over evil.

In the morning, I saw an online post. It said — “Good and bad both live within us. May you get the strength to overcome the demons within you! Happy Dusshera!”

My first reaction was — ‘Make merry with the demons, dude.’

I am not sure if it is the pandemic and its effect that made me think that. But as I thought further, I said — saala, when did the angels last take me on an adventure?

There are only garden walks with them. And to add to it, talks of tasting clouds — that’s all that there is to angels.

Your demons, on the other hand, take you on rollercoaster rides. You feel heat. You feel you’re going to die. You scream your a**$ out. You even fight them back. But you remember the madness of those moments. Sometimes there is anger. Sometimes there is a sense of tiredness. But a smirk of achievement lights you. It further instigates you to partner with demons to take on situations.

It’s because when you look back, you see you are ‘you’ because of the demons — the ones that you created in your head or even the ones who came in your life in form of persons who gave you continuous grief.

Those demons don’t think much. They don’t have biases. They do what they have to. It’s one hell of a ride with them.

In turn, these demons induce you to do what you feel is best for you no matter what the world says. You may be broken. But you’re re-born from your ‘demonic’ disruptions. You say your ‘demonic’ words for your comfort and cure. Your ‘demonic’ actions become your defining hallmarks.

And speaking of hell, with demons you know the end may be hell. They give you hell even before you reach it. But its unabashed. They bleed you with passion. But they tell you that scars will remain.

Unlike the angels who bleed you, but keep you blindfolded. They say the pain will pass. It is just a bit of suffering before bliss. What’s with the game of ‘fetch’ before the ‘treat’? Give me the treat or let me just fight for it. The added oodles of morals and mollycoddling of angels only adds to confusion. In fact, it drains. No points, thus, to guess that ‘demonic’ is a label of the ‘herd-ish’ angels.

I am happy with my demons. The nastier they are, the more resilient I will be and wider will be my world views. I’d prefer them over pathetic angels any day. Think of it, angels ‘prohibit’, demons ‘prod’.

Celebrating the demons, Happy Demon-era!

P.S. I am not possessed.
